Trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole in enteric fevers.

Clinical improvement was rapid in all 13 patients with enteric fever and one with Brucella abortus infection treated with trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole. There were no side-effects of the treatment and it was found easy to administer to toxic and delirious patients.

Evaluation of therapeutic efficacy of trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole and chloramphenicol in enteric fever.

In a clinical trial on 220 patients with bacteriologically proved enteric fever trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole was compared with chloramphenicol. All patients in both groups responded, and the mean periods of defervescence after starting therapy were similar in both groups.
